2017-2018 BRAZILIAN WOMEN’S SUPERLIGA

Superliga’s 17th round was a historic night for the competition, as transgender athlete Tifanny Abreu broke the competition’s  single game scoring record with 39 points in Vôlei Bauru‘s 3-2 (20/25 14/25 25/17 25/18 13/15) losing effort against Dentil Praia Clube/Uberlândia. Uberlândia was able to pull of the win even though it hit only 30% to Bauru‘s 39%, mainly because of its 15 aces and 44 points from errors. For the full article on this story, click here.

Minas‘s Destinee Hooker shined in her team’s win against Sesi with 24 points n 19/45 hitting, including 4 aces and one block. Her teammate Sonja Newcombe did not have as good as a night, connecting on only 1 of 10 hits for 1 point and being quickly subbed out of the game.

Meanwhile, Carli Lloyd led Barueri to another tough win, as the team is now 2-1 under her command. As a sad news for fans, Nicole Fawcett is still recovering from a calf injury for Uberlândia’s squad.

Player of the Week: Tiffany Abreu

We at VolleyMob like to award winning, rarely giving out player of the week honors to players whose teams lost their round’s game. However, a record breaking night must be recognized, as Tifanny erupted for 39 points in her team’s game against Dentil, a fact no one has ever accomplished before. Although shrouded in controversy due to her being a transgender athlete, her name name will etched on the competition’s history books for quite some time, as scoring outputs like these are very rare in such a competitive league as Superliga.

Team of The Week: Sesc/RJ

Uberlândia‘s undefeated season has been so special so far that a lot of people have slept on the competition’s current champions, Bernadinho Rezende’s Sesc/RJ. The club is having an amazing season as well, with a 16-1 record, and as Uberlândia is starting to come back down to earth from its fiery start, both teams set averages are starting to even out also. This week’s win was Sesc’s 6th straight 3-0 victory.
