Karine Guerra looks so fit that at a first glance, one would be amiss to say that she is pregnant, let alone at already 6 months into her gestation. But she is, and soon the 39-year-old setter will give birth to baby Noah.

Camponesa/Minas‘ Karina says that she plans to finish playing this season’s Superliga before retiring, which would take her into 8 months of pregnancy, an impressive, and maybe dangerous, feat. She gave an interview to Globo.com stating that she feels much better than she had expected:

“I’m in my sixth month. It’s my second pregnancy, I’ve had this experience three years ago. Now, of course, I’m a little older, so there’s some nutritional and resting worries. I have to be more careful. This time I’m wearing a strap belt, to prevent a diastasis, precisely because of my first labor. In the rest it’s, all normal, I just can not fall on my stomach.

It’s interesting. This time has been different for me. When I discovered the pregnancy, my goal was to reach the South American Championship finals. But I’m surprised, feeling better than I expected. I believe I will reach the Superliga’s final if we go through all the stages. When the mind is well, everything goes well. I got to this level, pregnant, at 39. This is beyond what I imagined possible. I do not know of any players who have played pregnant at my age.”

Karine could be a starter in almost all of Superliga teams, but choose to remain in Minas to backup and mentor national teamer Macris Carneiro probably due to Minas’s financial stability. She has been an integral part of Minas’ offense this season, as her coach Stefano Lavarini relies heavily on his bench.
