Destinee Hooker Undergoes Minor Surgical Procedure In Brazil

Globo has publhished in its website that USA’s and Camponesa/Minas‘ standout Destinee Hooker has undergone a minor groin surgical procedure. The team has not communicated the press Hooker’s timetable for return, as she is yet to participate in any of the team’s South American Club Championship, making her participation in the tournament very improbable.

Without Hooker, it is safe to say that Minas can kiss its continental championship title goodbye, even if it did beat rivals SESC-RJ, this edition’s probable winner, last week in Superliga. Beating Bernadinho’s SESC without her will be a herculean task, as that instead of Sonja Newcombe‘s case, who has the standout Pri Daroit backing her up on the bench in case of an emergency, nobody in Minas can replace Hooker competently.

Destinee Hooker, who had previously vanished from the volleyball world, renewed her legacy last season with Minas Tênis Clube, as she was Superliga’s second leading scorer despite the fact that she started playing in the competition in its 9th round. Although this year she hasn’t yet reproduced her high scoring, jaw dropping performances from last year,  a below than average Hooker is much better than an average player.

In all honesty, Minas will not lose sleep if it loses the  South American Club Championship, as its biggest goal is a deep Superliga playoff run. For that to happen, Hooker has to return at 100%.
