Nicole Fawcett has finally made her 2018 debut for Dentil Praia Clube/Uberlândia this weekend. The former Team USA standout went down at the end of December with a calf injury, a recurrent lesion she has lately been experiencing.

Uberlândia employed a very connservative recovery process with Fawcett to be completely sure she was back to her 100% potential, as the club is now only one game away from its Superliga playoffs. Her return to the courts was very gradual, as she joined her first game from the bench, being only occasionally subbed in, before starting and playing in a full game. Here is what her coach Paulo Coco said of the recovery process to Globo.com:

“The goal was to give her playing rhythm as for her to regain physical and technical form. We need everyone well. The team becomes stronger when everyone gives their best. We are looking, in this final stretch, to have everyone under these conditions.”

Fawcett herself commented on her recovery:

“It took me a long time to come back and make sure everything’s okay. We tried returning during Copa Brasil, but it did not work. We took our time and I feel pretty good now. I’m a little nervous because it was December the last time I played. So coming back and playing was so much fun. I think I played really well, but obviously I have a lot to practice with the team. But I felt good for the first time.”

Uberlândia currently leads Superliga with a 20-0 record.
