2017-2018 BRAZILIAN WOMEN’S SUPERLIGA

Dentil Praia Clube/Uberlândia was finally able to eliminate Vôlei Nestlé/Osasco by handing it a 3-1 (18/25 25/16 25/19 25/21) victory behind Nicole Fawcett‘s 20 points on 16/30 (53%) hitting. Tandara Caixeta had 33 points in the losing effort. Points from errors played a huge role in the match, as Uberlândia committed only 14 mistakes in the 4 sets of play, while Osasco committed 24.

Fawcett played her first good game in a good while for Uberlândia. She entered game 5 hitting 29% on 7.7% efficiency on the previous 4 games of the series. She commented on how it was like to get out of her slump:

“I played badly, really badly, the last two games of the series. I tried to change some things, to train the basics again. I had a lot of help from my teammates and, when I was down, they came and lifted me up, helped me to be more positive. I thank all of my great teammates. I feel much better. This is the result of the team’s work. When we play as a team, we are very strong. I am very happy, I feel very blessed to be on this team and I am happy for what we did. We still have two games to go, but I hope the next two games will be my best.”

Tandara, who watched her team get eliminated, once again had a monster performance with 33 points. Here is how she reacted after the match:

“Our greater number of mistakes made the difference in the final result. We made a sensational first set, then started to lose our power as they improved. In the fourth set, we managed to open up a lead, but they chipped away at it until they closed out the set. Praia played very well in the decisive moments. Even so, Nestle Volleyball is to be congratulated. Our season was sensational. My soul is cleansed and I did my best. Osasco is my home and Volleyball Nestlé has always treated me very well.”

Uberlândia will now go on to face Sesc/Rio in the finals, a rematch of their 2016-17 match-up, which Rio won. Game 1 of the two game series is scheduled to take place on 04/15.
