The partnership between Nestlé and Osasco volleyball has come to an end, according to Melhordovolei.com.br. This comes as a surprise to fans, specially after Osasco won two titles this season and was the Superliga team with the highest attendance numbers.
Acting as the team’s main sponsor since 2009, Nestlé provided the financial supported needed for Osasco to win 2 Superliga titles, 4 South-American Championships, 2 Brazilian Cups, and 1 FIVB Club WCH. Here in an excerpt from Nestlé’s official statement:
“After nine years of a successful partnership with the women’s volleyball team in Osasco, Nestlé announces that it has concluded its journey with the team and will now concentrate its investments and efforts in strengthening its ties to platforms that amplify the impact in the communities where it has operations. The end of the sponsorship in this first semester was already foreseen in the contract with the club.”
Prior to Osasco, Nestlé sponsored the legendary Leite Moça team from 1992 to 1999, helping it win 3 Superliga titles and 1 World Championship. But now it looks like the company will shift its attention from sports for good. Where will Osasco, one of Brazil’s premir clubs, go from here? Being founded in 2001, it is safe to say that it will stick around Superliga, as potential sponsors would love to have their names associated with the team. How much they would be willing to invest, though, is the biggest question.
