Uberlândia, Sesc, Minas, and Osasco punched their tickets to the semis, as Barueri, Fluminense, Pinheiros, and Bauru were sent home. Now only the four strongest teams survive and will go on to fight for the title:
- Dentil Praia Clube/Uberlândia beat Vôlei Bauru 3-0 (25/20 25/16 25/19) behind Nicole Fawcett‘s 12 points. Yoana Palácio had 11 points in the losing effort, while Tifanny Abreu was held to only 3 points in a 3/19 (16%) hitting effort. Bauru only hit 29% as a team from the field in what was arguably its worst game of the season. Here is how Uberlândia’s coach Paulo Coco reacted to the match (Globo.com):
“We concluded our second goal well. We had fulfilled the first one already, which was to win the regular season and get home court advantage. Despite finishing first, the second stage was not an easy crossing. Since signing Tifanny, Bauru grew as a team. She is a player who scores a lot. The expectation was of a difficult game, as was the match away from home. As hosts, we started the game nervous, we made some mistakes, the game did not fit. But from the middle to the end of the set our service started to connect, caused difficulties for their side and the team had a consistency and opened a lot.”
- Sesc/RJ beat Pinehiros 3-0 (25/22 25/22 25/13) behind Mayhara Silva‘s 14 points. Milka Marcilia had 8 points in the losing effort. As did Bauru earlier, Pinheiros aslo had probably its worst game of the season, as the team combined for a 33% hitting effort. Sesc’s coach Bernardinho extensively used his bench in the game (Globo.com):
“It’s already a team inside joke, they call me a luck charm. Joking aside, the merits are Bernadinho’s. He knows the right moment to sub, what he wants, who he wants to put on the court, and at the right time. We just obey. It is very cool that, in this decisive moment of the championship, he trusts us. It’s good for our confidence too, to know that he is there, prepared all the time, that we can come in at any moment.'” – Kasiely Clemente
“I think the team is like that, not just six players who are on the court. Whoever is on the bench is also well prepared. We train as a group. I’m happy to come and help the team. It’s my first semifinal. Bernardinho gives plenty of opportunity to those who are in the bench. I’m glad he’s trusting me and putting myself in the game when the score is 23/23. I will continue to do my best. I know the team has everything to grow even further.” – Carol Leite
- Vôlei Nestlé/Osasco beat Hinode/Barueri 3-1 (18/25 25/17 21/25 24/26) behind Tandara Caixeta‘s 20 points. Katarzyna Skowronska had 23 points in the losing effort. Here is how players reacted to the game (Globo):
“I thought it would be very bad of me to keep this trophy, since she was much better than me at the decisive moments. - Camponesa/Minas beat Fluminense 3-1 (25/22 23/25 25/15 25/23). This was team captain’s Carol Gattaz’s 150th game with the team. Here is what she had to say about advancing to the semifinals (Globo.com):
“I’m very focused on our team right now. The team is to be congratulated for its two matches in this quarter-final series. We knew that today would be much more difficult and that Fluminense would be stronger, and that’s what happened. Now will face Rio de Janeiro once again, and they are heavy title favorites because of the experience and quality of their players. We have to turn the page now and start thinking about the semifinal. It will not be an easy series, but we’ll fight to be in the finals.”
