2017-2018 BRAZILIAN WOMEN’S SUPERLIGA

Team USA’s Carli Lloyd was one of Superliga’s hottest transfers this season. After recovering from a shoulder injury, she was signed by José Roberto Guimarães’ Hinode/Barueri, eventually leading the team to a play-off appearance. We recently caught up with her to ask what she thought of her time in the country. Let’s remember what she had to say:

– Carli, How would you describe your short Brazilian adventure?
The first word that comes to mind is INCREDIBLE. It is difficult for me to find the most sufficient words to describe how I felt in Brazil for my short experience. Although I wasn’t there very long I felt like I had been a part of this culture and community my whole life. I felt at home. I felt such a warm welcome and so much love and support. Being immersed in the Brazilian culture and experiencing your love for family/friends, great food, dance, music and connection is something I am so thankful for and will carry with me forever.

– Would you consider playing in the country again?
With all of my heart I want to play in Brazil again.

To the delight of the many Brazilian fans who everyday flood Carli’s social media pages asking her to stay in Brazil, and to Carli herself, it looks like her wish will come true. According to famous Brazilian blogger Bruno Voloch, Carli has agreed to a contract with the super-team Dentil Praia Clube/Uberlândia for next season. If indeed true, she would join a team that has in it Brazilian national teamers Fernada Garay, this season’s probable MVP, Suelen Pinto, and Fabiana Claudino.  That is a squad good enough to compete with Europe’s best. The question remaining is if the team would be willing to extend Nicole Fawcett‘s contract, thus allowing a Team USA tandem to brew in Brazilian courts.
